Western University Be Extraordinary The Campaign For Western

The Western Experience at the Don Wright Faculty of Music is built on a strong tradition of excellence in music education, performance and research across genres and styles. Fundamentally we embrace the responsibility of cultivating cultural ambassadors through engagement with music. The breadth and depth of our musical program and scholarship, the unique holdings of our Music Library, plus our talented alumni, contribute to a reputation as one of the best Music Faculties in North America.

For our students to create and re-create music at their best, we are focused on educational opportunities and performing spaces that encourage musicians to flourish. The following key initiatives are the most critical to ensuring that our students and faculty have the resources necessary to succeed.

Key Initiatives:

Presented each year to undergraduate students in the Don Wright Faculty of Music, this new award is critical to ensuring recruitment and retention of top students. Support provides current and future students with the best learning opportunities.

Performance Support

Supplementing the studies of our students with opportunities to interact with guest artists and scholars from across Canada and around the world is essential to our program. These outstanding leaders offer valuable insight into many facets of the profession and exemplify the highest levels of the human potential to experience and achieve music.

Opera Program

With over 200 voice majors across Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs, we mount two fully staged operas and an opera gala. These experiences are a critical part of experiential learning. By providing a forum for promising young artists to learn alongside renowned performers and coaches, we are ensuring the continued longevity of one of the world’s most dramatic art forms.

Spaces and equipment that are used on such a consistent basis need constant attention. Our community (students, faculty, staff, and community members in our music-based programs) is very busy in our two buildings, three performance spaces, and many classrooms, rehearsal spaces and studios. The maintenance and upkeep are important to ensure we have the best possible environment for everyone achieve.
